Puerto Rico is perfectly paradise …and not just for its pristine beaches.
Puerto Rico has an eclectic, deeply rooted culture, exquisite food, a population over 3 million people who are as beautiful inside as they are on the outside, and some of the world’s best rum you’ll ever find. If this sounds like paradise to you, too, check out the rest of what this island has to offer next time you can get away.
Visiting a place you’ve never been to before is exciting. It’s even more exciting when you know a bit about the history and culture of that place before you arrive. It tends to lend a more meaningful aspect to the sights you’re about to see. So, what are some of things you should know about Puerto Rico?
San Juan is home to…
The oldest churches you’ll find in North or South America are located in the capital of Puerto Rico, San Juan. And Puerto Rico is still the home of some of the best coffee you’ll find in the entire world.
The island was under Spanish rulership…
Spain colonized and ruled Puerto Rico for 400 years. The archipelago was one of the last regions Spain ruled prior to the U.S. acquiring these islands in the Caribbean. Spain ceded Puerto Rico, Guam, and other territories to the United States after losing the Spanish-American War.
Four hundred years is a long time, so it’s no wonder that Spanish is the native language of many Puerto Ricans. Even though the island’s official language is English, many aren’t fluent, and Spanish remains widely spoken.
Now, with a bit of history of this archipelago, where will you stay on the island?
La Terraza
The La Terraza de San Juan Hotel is surrounded by plenty of shopping spots, as well as two of the most notable landmarks in the city: the San Juan Cathedral and the Convent of the Dominicos. La Terraza is a smoke-free establishment, so make sure you bring a vape or smoke outside. Don’t forget to stop by the pool — there’s a bar poolside, as well as a coffee shop and a terrace on the roof.
Inside the hotel, you have a restaurant and three different clubs. All rooms have internet and docks for your iPhone.
